Great Autumn Beach Clean 23rd - 29th October 2018

Surfers Against Sewage are encouraging community groups to participate in their annual Great Autumn Beach Clean. CCOH will post details of local events nearer the time.


Great British Beach Clean 14th - 17th September 2018

 Several environmental organisations such as  Marine Conservation UK are encouraging local groups to take part in a Great British Beach Clean. CCOH will shortly be announcing a programme of events over the weekend of Friday 14th September.


Westside Beach Clean Saturday 18th August 2018

We’re gearing up for a big Westside Beach Clean, covering a number of beaches from Shawbost to Brue.  More details will be announced shortly, but get the date in your diary! Thanks to the Barvas and Brue Community Centre,  Horshader, and Bragar and Arnol Community Trust for coming together to help organise this.


Stornoway Carnival 4th August

In association with Back Football Recreation Club, a prize winning float was created of a whale in a sea of plastic. 


Bragar and Brue Community Meeting 28th May

Representatives of CCOH were at the meeting to plan a beach clean, tentatively in July.


Great Spring Beach Clean, April

Over 1.5 tonnes of rubbish collected in 48 mini beach clean-ups with 142 people taking part throughout the Isles. In association with Surfers Against Sewage.


Saturday 31st March, Beach Clean, Sandwick

Over 60 people came to help clean the beaches at Sandwick, Isle of Lewis, and over two and a half tons of waste was removed from the shore. Many thanks to everyone who came and helped including Alasdair Allen, MSP who did his share.


Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th March. Janet Marshall spoke to the P3s of Stornoway Primary about the dangers to wildlife in the oceans, then they did a mini beach clean at Coll.


Monday 11th March Informal Meeting, Buth Bharraigh, Castlebay, Isle of Barra

Janet Marshall met Barra folk to help support cleaning our shores island wide and share ideas, information, and sources of support.


Saturday 10th March, Ceann na Ora, North Harris (along the Husinish road just after the turning off the main road) Organised by the North Harris Trust. Scary amounts of discarded fishing gear, plastic strapping, the plastic of shotgun cartridges and a coconut were among the items lifted from the shore by a hardworking crew.


Monday 19th February in An Lanntair

A brief meeting of activists agreed several roles and to encourage more activists to join us.


Saturday 27th January, Beach Clean at Rodel organised by the Harris Voluntary Service. Over 30 people helped at this event and the images that group posted were very impressive. Over half a skip of plastics were removed from the shore.


Wednesday 10th January at  in Stornoway Town Hall

 Janet Marshall spoke to over 60 people on the need for a dedicated group to help clean the shores of the islands. This was followed by a Q&A session, that came up with some wonderful ideas. A core team was agreed who will meet soon. Watch this space!
